Mountains

Brights Creek is an amazing layout with great mountain and stream views just south of Lake Lure NC

With 7 outstanding Clubs south of Asheville, The Cliffs Communities are certainly worth a look with their reciprocal program.   They have streamlined the custom home building process, as well.   Most homes are between $1-3 Million.  Call Todd Farlow for more information:  (704) 293-5670

Banner Elk, NC area has some great club choices.  Grandfather CC is the most beautiful golf course I have ever seen, as well as the best layout I have ever played.  Linville Ridge has some very dramatic long range views and elevation changes.  Elk River was built with every lot in a triangle that connects to Jack Nicklaus’s home, so that everyone is his next door neighbor.    Sugar as well as Beech Ski Mountains have golf clubs.  And Tom Fazio’s Diamond Creek is in Golf Digest’s Top 100 Courses in the US.

West of Asheville, Tom Fazio also built Wade Hampton Club and Mountaintop in Cashiers, numbers 10 and 49 in  the GolfWeek Top 100 Modern Courses in USA (2017).  Cashiers and neighboring Highlands are swanky little villages with great dining.   Just east you will find the recently renovated Lake Toxaway Country Club.  It is stunning, as is the nearby lake.  You must be a property owner to join this club –a really good problem to have.  The hardwood trees here are very, very colorful in the fall- see below

If you enjoy golf travel, the owner of Asheville Country Club has 11 other clubs with reciprocity.  Call Todd Farlow at (704) 293-5670 to arrange a tour or to get real estate information about country clubs or developments in the Carolinas and Virginia.

West of Asheville the high mountains get steeper and taller. Just north of Lake Toxaway is some amazing golf around Sylva and Cherokee. Sequoyia National was built in 2009 by Robert Trent Jones Jr. for The Harrahs Cherokee Casino. A 2020 renovation of fairways, tees, and green surrounds to Zoysia grass gives them better conditions in late summer. It is an hours drive to Asheville, but the Casino has great entertainment and restaurants just 4 miles away. The elevation changes are a lot of fun here but membership is as level a deal as you can find: just $1,250/year gets you golf for only carts fee and discounted guest fees. You see almost no real estate here, just unspoiled mountain scenery.

Hole 18 at Sequoyah National

Balsam Mountain Preserve nearby also has dramatic elevation changes. This development has the lowest density of any Blue Ridge mountain community: just 400 lots on 4,000 acres. Arnold Palmer designed the golf course.
